Default [PVP Article] on Player/Guild Credentials and Reputation and its Effects

this thread is not meant to enlarge my e-peen or something but to give the new or guildless players some insights about the importance of getting into a good guild and having a good social and gaming skills to give you a pleasant Guild Wars experience and how to do so. i'll be using myself as an example to clearly present my points.

Guild Wars is a team game that requires multiple people to do a single job - that is to win. The game provides players different skills to help make them a team build. A class which has a particular skill combination does tasks that are needed for the team build to work. Pre-Nightfall, a serious PvP team is usually required to have 8 players but with NFs arrival, a team can have heroes and henchmen to fight along side with a player.

With the stigma associated with heroes, one is forced to go with the usual tradition of getting rank 3 first via FoTM, get rank 6 to infinity via the "balanced" build, trash talk against players who use FoTMs, join a GvG guild and have that silver or golden cape if he wants to be taken seriously in the PvP scene. So new players have to go through that rigorous process which may take months or a year or maybe never if you really suck. That tradition is painful to the new guys and it's hard to break that tradition. But those lose hope, this article will help you facilitate your transition from a nobody to the leetest pvper who is taken seriously and respected whether you are RAing, PvEing, TAing, HAing, GvGing or even selling an item somewhere.

How To Be Taken Seriously in just 3 steps
-----------------------------------------

so we have to start somewhere right? yes. as a new player, you should play with any groups that is forming, especially if you have no fame to boast. Random invite, join a ventless group and better join a group running a tried and tested build. This will give you wins. And treat losses with a good outlook. be a masochist till you get to rank 3. while doing that, don't forget the team mates you think got potential. usually those players look for something to team with too so do your best and try to win for the team. who knows, they will be your guildmates someday.

Once you got your rank 3, dont ever play the fotm that you played before because again, the stigma of playing FoTMS past rank3 is still here and you know the leet veterans balanced players, they trash talk anyone that doesnt play their build whether they win or they lose. As a Guild Wars player who wants to have a pleasant pvp experience reading just "GGs" and "nice build you have" and "hi (insert name here) gl have fun" in your chat, you must practice playing a shock warrior, a woh monk, an infuser or a pd mesmer and again impress others by doing them with finesse in either the groups you join and the groups you start. You MUST only play in builds with monks, warriors and casters if you don't want to be labeled as someone that is not nice, ok ill say it, "(fotm) noob".

After that, when you think that you're getting bored with HA and youre thinking of starting to do GvG, you may want to befriend all rank 30+ guilds and try your luck to let them get you into their gvg core. they say playing with good guilds make you a better player coz it makes you work double time and keep up with your teammates. and the additional perks about that is the champion points that you get and the cape that you'll have. and having played with a better team, you can easily sense that, say a pug group that you've joined is playing bad and you can make an excuse if you dont want to play with them anymore. or you can trash talk them. or say if you're in a guild and you think the players that you got are bad, you can disband the guild. see having played with the good players will give you that insight about good and bad players.

Importance of Being a Good Socializer, Gamer and being in a Good Respectable Guild
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

There's nothing wrong with having lotsa friends coz they can get you into a good guild and good pvp group, but not always. With connections, you can easily fill your team. usually, pvpers befriend a player if they see they perform well whatever task they are given. usually me, i only play trapper and sometimes i mess things up too so only a few people invite me to HA groups (or i think they choose me as a last resort) and now no one even is running a trapper in HA so im stuck PvEing, killing charrs using trapping and idling. i also dont socialize that much and the only chat windows that are checked are the guild chat and trade chat (sometimes i turn off guild chat too coz green texts sometimes hurt my eyes) so i have only few people on my friendslist (and most of them arent always on). so clearly, the importance of being friendly and a leet player is important if you want to have playtime, good groups and pwn people.

The game being named as guild wars, you must have a guild and being in a good and respectable guild is a must if you want a pleasant gw experience. being in the most hated guild in the face of GW (big FU to britney spears' men [KFED], who recently claimed they are the most hated guild in guildwars) will be a nightmare for those who arent immuned to hatred/trash talks. imagine being hit by 3 warriors in RA as a warrior even i have 1 monks and 2 mesmers on my team, someone telling that "math sucks" after he killed you (in RA), team mates leaving in RA because they have a monk with a MATH tag, not getting into any pve groups because pvers too dont like iway noobs, being ganked by 2 heroways in HA, being taunted when we lose, still getting those unwanted comments in PVE, TA, Random Arenas, HA, GVG or even in forums and most importantly, not given a chance to play balanced. compared to the indian caste system, my guild is under the "untouchables" class, the lowest class there is. You don't want that to happen to you, serious pvper because you will try to get into a leet guild, be praised and be loved.

So that's basically it. If you want to get respected, get good teams and be taken seriously, be versatile, be a good socializer and join good guilds. otherwise, join us.

regards,

Scout[MATH]

lol, I'd suggest you quit MATH if I wasn't so positive that you get off on people hating you. I dare you, I DOUBLE DOG DARE YOU to make a post, once, ever that doesn't involve IWAY (not including a response to this one, that would be too easy).

On a couple of other lighter notes, the entire world has been laughing itself hoarse at the ruin of IWAY - the total destruction of any remaining integrity in HA was a small price to pay. That, and I find it hilarious that JR went to the trouble of putting your post in the fiction section. Hilarious because it happened to you that is.

Haw haw!

I first intended to respond seriously to this. Excited I was when I saw the threadtitle 'pvp article'. Someone writing articles! I was anxious to see what the writer would bring to discussion, and maybe if I could add something to the discussion.

Alas, the sarcasm reigns to high in the OP to be taken serious. The form is also questionable ('coz' - internet language), and the content is quite debatable. But a debatable content isn't the worst thing. The article is written in a manner that debate won't take place on content, but form as it tempts players to react to 'math-bashing' or the sarcastic tone that flows around.

Disappointing, I guess I'll have to wait a bit longer to see a quality read again

Both the characters and the plot combine in this beautiful epic to create a story that's dramatic, moving, and occasionally hilarious. I'm not ashamed to admit that I was crying by the end. Thank you for creating such a wonderful piece of fiction.

A++ Story material. Consider seeking a publishing company.

oops forgot to put a disclaimer.

this satire is meant to criticise other people who impose standards on other people and not minding their own business

That was quite touching...
I got called a FoTM noob on the first day of the 8 man HA nightfall preview event for running Spiritual Pain spike. Guess I am a build thief...

Though this may be satire, some of the things are true, the best way to get good groups is to build a friends list

is it better to be one of the thousand members in "top 100 exp" guilds or a member in one of the few infamous guilds in the game?

Best thread in Lyssa's Fiction ever. Seriously, Syra has some nice writing talent. The whole story was moving, and at the end I felt myself sympathising with the protagonist. Voting 5!

I nominated this for the pulitzer prize. I would also like to point out that the one time I did face a MATH monk in RA, his team got flawlessed in 49 seconds.
